Ritz Carlton Residences
Ritz-Carlton Residences Chicago is one of River North’s established luxury condominium buildings, but its appeal has never really been about being the newest building in the neighborhood. It is about service. Located at 118 E. Erie, the building offers a level of personal attention that is difficult to find in a Chicago condominium, with an in-house butler, valet parking, concierge, door staff, and a team that knows its residents.
The Ritz-Carlton name certainly adds to the experience, but I think the service is what makes the building special. There are newer buildings with more elaborate amenities and more contemporary finishes. What is harder to replicate is having someone take care of the details that make everyday life easier.
The Ritz-Carlton has been around long enough that you can see what has held up. The architecture feels established rather than trendy, the residences have a comfortable residential quality, and the building has maintained the level of service that buyers expect from the name.
The butler, concierge, and valet aren't simply items on an amenity list. They are part of the daily experience. Having your car brought around, having someone available to handle a request, or simply knowing there is a staff that understands the building makes a difference. Those are the things that tend to become more valuable the longer you live there.
The building is only part of the equation. Ritz-Carlton residences vary considerably depending on floor plan, floor height, exposure, views, natural light, and how the individual home has been maintained or renovated.
I pay close attention to those differences when evaluating a residence. Two homes with similar square footage can feel completely different, and price per square foot doesn't always tell you why. The right floor plan and the right view can matter much more than a small difference in size.
I also encourage buyers to experience the service for themselves. You can read about a concierge or valet on a listing, but you understand their value much better when you actually spend time in the building.
The location is another reason the building has remained relevant. You're close to Michigan Avenue, River North restaurants and shopping, the lakefront, and the rest of downtown, but the residential experience feels considerably more private than the activity outside suggests.
For me, that's one of the building's best qualities. You get the convenience of being in the middle of the city without feeling like your home is in the middle of everything happening around you.
I think the Ritz-Carlton makes the most sense for someone who values service as much as the residence itself. There are plenty of excellent luxury condos in River North, and some are newer or have more amenities. That's not necessarily the point here.
The appeal is having a well-established building, a great location, and a staff that is genuinely part of the living experience. In a city where luxury buildings increasingly compete on how many amenities they can fit into a brochure, I think there is something to be said for simply having people who take care of things.
That is what the Ritz-Carlton does particularly well.
Every Ritz-Carlton residence is a little different, and floor plan, views, condition, and level of customization can have a meaningful impact on both value and the experience of living there.
