Lululemon and Fare are planning new locations at Tribune Tower on Michigan Avenue.
Lululemon is coming to Tribune Tower, and I like this one. Crain’s reports that the retailer has signed a lease at Michigan and Illinois. There’s no opening date yet, but it’s a substantial store planned for a corner that deserves a good tenant.
Nordstrom is directly across the street. You have the river, the hotels and plenty of people living nearby. This is a strong location, and lululemon makes sense here. It’s the kind of brand I’d expect to be particular about where it opens.
Fare is taking the old Foxtrot space on Pioneer Court, too, with plans to open in spring 2027. I’ll be honest, I had to Google Fare. I hadn’t heard of it, but after looking at the menu, I could see myself picking it up for lunch or dinner when I don’t feel like cooking. I haven’t tried it yet, but having it downstairs would be convenient.
I’ve worked with buyers, sellers and renters of Tribune Tower condos, so I pay attention to what happens beyond the individual homes. You notice the empty storefronts when you’re in and out of a building regularly, and you want to see something worthwhile go into them. I’m happy with these two.
This also follows Nike signing a lease for the old Forever 21 space at 540 North Michigan. I’d much rather see these companies find a location on the avenue that works for them than leave altogether. Nike is staying, lululemon is committing to space, and both are continuing to invest in Chicago. That’s good news.
For Tribune homeowners, it’s more shopping and another place to pick up a meal without making a trip out of it. That’s part of why people choose to live downtown in the first place, and I’m glad to see more of it coming to the building.
